5Accessing the Network
- To access the VSU network, faculty must login to
the Active Directory Domain. Active Directory is
a directory service for the VSU campus community.
It is a directory where information is stored to
allow you access to services and resources. You
are required to login to Active Directory, and
change your password, before being able to login
to Blackboard, GroupWise email, or the campus
Wireless network. - User names are formatted as follows first
initial and last name - Snow Sample
- Ssample_at_vsu.edu
- There is no initial password. Simply hit the
enter key after typing in your user name. You
will then be prompted for a new password. - Password criteria
- A minimum length of 8 alphanumeric characters.
- Must contain a mix of upper and lower case
characters. - Have at least 1 numeric character.
- Contain at least 1 special character. The
special characters are - ( ! _at_ _ ? / , \ )
Please note that OIT recommends changing your
password to something that you will remember, but
that wont be easy for someone else to guess.
Also, for the security of your account, you
should avoid sharing your password with anyone.
For more information on changing your password,
see the instructions at the end of this section.

Email addresses are formatted as follows first
initial, and your last name. (Name Snow Sample)
example ssample_at_.vsu.edu
The password will be the same as that established
for your Active Directory account. You are
required to login to Active Directory, and change
your password from the default, before being able
to login to Blackboard, GroupWise email, or the
campus Wireless network. Logging in to Your
Account Your email account may be accessed
through the Internet, using the Internet
Explorer, Netscape, or Firefox web browsers, by
entering the following URL http//gwise.vsu.edu/
and then choosing a language and clicking the
Go button to get to the Login Screen.

designated fields and click the Login button.

- The Academy for Faculty Development is designed
to provide customized, university-wide
opportunities for full-time and part-time faculty
and staff to interact with colleagues as they
enjoy professional growth. To that end, a wide
variety of collaborative faculty/staff
development training programs (e.g., seminars,
workshops), research projects, and
other activities will be featured on a regular,
year-round basis.

23Trojan Computer Lab
- Trojan Computer Lab
- The Trojan Link Computer Lab is located on the
basement level of the James Hugo Johnston
Memorial Library. The Lab is a part of the 24
hour complex where students have access for
typing papers, conducting research, checking
email, or taking care of other computer needs.
The Lab has Microsoft Office 2003 installed on
all machines in the Trojan Link Computer Lab and
plug-ins to accommodate departmental software
applications for class assignments. There are 64
computer workstations located in the Lab with
access to networked print services (Pay for Print
and Copy). -
