Life Cycle

• Mating in summer
• Lives in den
• Gives birth when hibernating
• Cubs stay with mom for 6 months
• Cub are adults at ½ years
• Lives 1015 years

Habitat/Shelter

• Alaska to Mexico
• Thickly wooded areas
• Dense brush lands
• Lives in dens
• Puts grass, and leaves on bottom of den
• Den keeps it warm in winter
• Habitat gives it lots of food

Diet

• Mostly eats plants, roots, grains, and fruit
• Berries, and meat
• Flexible lips and long tongue make berry picking
  easy
• Teaches young to hunt

Adaptations

• Good sense of smell and good hearing help it
  catch prey
• Hibernates
• Fur can be black, bluish, white, cinnamon
  colored, brown, and bluish blackish

• Can run 35 mph
• Male called boar
• Female sow
• Baby cub
• New born cubs size of squirrels
• Smallest North American bear
• Raccoons, Brown Bears, Polar Bears, Panda Bears,
  and Asian Bears are its cousins
• Humans can help by not over hunting it
