- Traditional, wooden rowboats once populated the
canals of Venice.
- Each boat was constructed at traditional Venetian
boatyards, or squeri.
3Uses of Traditional Boats Today Remiere and
Regate
Remiere Venetian Rowing Clubs
- Large collections of traditional boats
- Coordinate and participate in Regate
4The Problem
- Motorboats are replacing traditional boats on the
canals.
- Today, traditional boats are used mainly for
sports or leisure they are no longer used for
everyday use.
- Many traditional boats are being neglected.
5Fitabatèle
- A number of Squeri and various other
boat-related organizations are shutting down, and
a large portion of Venetian history is being lost.
6Addressing the Problem
ArzanÃ
- Is focused on the study and conservation of
historic Venetian boats.
- Has collected nearly 40 traditional boats.

Mission Statement The goal of this project is
to help Arzanà and to restore and preserve the
nautical traditions of Venice by collecting and
organizing information for the development of
various fundraising and awareness programs.
Objectives
- To expand the catalog of items owned by Arzanà ,
including boats and other maritime accessories.
- To document the elements of the nautical heritage
of Venice. - To promote awareness of the threat to traditional
Venetian boats. - To develop fundraising programs for the
restoration and preservation of traditional
Venetian boats.
