THE INNOVATIVE INTERFACE

• Partnering the Pioneers Funding the Future
• At the nexus of regenerative medicine for
  nearly a decade, PTEI serves the interests of all
  stakeholders in this dynamic field. PTEI joins
  academic researchers with government and industry
  to promote development of advanced regenerative
  therapies and deliver them more rapidly to
  patients and the marketplace.
• PTEI seeds and nurtures interdisciplinary and
  international collaborations securing and
  dispersing funding, sponsoring acclaimed
  scientific conferences, and promoting workforce
  development through an exceptional range of
  high-quality educational programs for
  undergraduate and post-doctoral students, as well
  as the broad public. In addition, PTEI
  administers the U.S. National Tissue Engineering
  Center, host to multidisciplinary teams of
  researchers improving wound treatment and healing
  for U.S. military personnel both on and off the
  battlefield.

• ASSET Achieve Student Success through Excellence
  in Teaching
• ASSET provides curriculum development, teacher
  training, science materials for Middle School
  students
• Partnership between PTEI and ASSET produced
  curricula for MS science teachers/students
• One result is an exhibit at the Carnegie Science
  Center entitled If a Starfish Can Grow and Arm,
  Why Cant I?

• Rubicon Atlas Curriculum Mapping is web based
  curriculum mapping tool that electronically
  incorporates curriculum mapping, tracks gaps and
  repetition between and among lessons.

Tissue Regeneration

• One Example A 68 year old man had necrosis (or
  decay) of the middle finger of his right hand.
• This is not the case of a finger tip being cut
  off by a traumatic event such as a accident with
  a saw or a hatchet. In a severed finger tip the
  surgeon could reattach the tip with sutures, and
  the finger would reunite with scar tissue.

Educational Initiatives

• Military schools The Department of Defense
  schools enroll 85,000 students. PTEI and Atlas
  working together to educate students about TE.
• Western PA schools MS HS with Atlas
  technology are logical partners with PTEI.
• Higher Education Dialogue with Universities to
  integrate TE into the course work of Science
  Education Majors.
