• Venus was born of the sea. Her parents were Zeus
  and Dione. It is said she was created by the
  union of heaven and earth.

Venus the Roman goddess of Love is also know as
Aphrodite the Greek goddess of fertility and
vegetation.

Venus was forced to marry to the ugly god of
fire, Hephaestus but Venus was in love with Mars.
Mars was the god of War.

Venus separated from Hephaestus and married Mars.

• Venus is the mother of Eros/
• Cupid the winged god of love. Because Eros was
  lonely she gave him a playmate, Anteros, the god
  of returned love or marriage.

The Romans knew of seven bright objects in the
sky, the sun, the moon and the five brightest
planets. They named them after their most
important gods. Venus, the brightest planet in
the night sky, was named after the Roman goddess
of love, beauty, and fertility.
