7What is a Citation?
- In simple terms, a citation refers to the
information required to identify and document a
resource used in your research in such a way that
others may find that exact source.
8What is a Citation?
- For a book this would include the author(s)
and/or editor(s), the title, which edition, where
the book was published, who published it and the
date of publication. - For an article this would include the author(s),
title of the article, title of the journal,
volume and/or issue numbers, date of publication
and page numbers.

- In documenting your sources, you must present the
references or citations to your sources in a
particular style or format. - Each discipline uses a particular citation style
or format.

- Start at the Maag Library Home Page
(http//www.maag.ysu.edu) - Mouse over Find (first tab)
- Click Books or one of the choices listed in the
first column

- Use MaagNet to find out what Maag Library owns
- Use the OhioLINK Library Catalog to expand your
search to other OhioLINK libraries. Request books
or videos online from other libraries. Items
usually arrive in 3-5 days.

- Search a Research Database such as CINAHL,
Health Source Nursing/Academic or MEDLINE to
find a citation and/or full text. (For other
suggested databases see the Class Page mentioned
above).

- Click Listed by Name or Listed by Subject

- Search medical databases all at once
- Select CINAHL
- At the search screen look for the blue Choose
Databases tab near the top of the screen or use
the drop down menu

databases (Health Source Nursing and Academic,
MEDLINE, PRE-CINAHL for older articles) by
clicking the box to the left of the title - Click continue

- Use Advanced Search this is the default
- Enter your terms in the FIND box
- Add additional terms in the TERMS box
- Select a field to search in
- Select a Boolean operator (AND, OR, NOT) to
combine FIND with TERMS - Click Add to Search
