4Screening Physicals
- Students in grades K, 3, 7 10 are required to
have physical exams - Students have vision, hearing, height, weight and
scoliosis screenings - Athletes must all have sport exams on file
5Kindergarten Registration
Detailed screening at registration helps to
ensure a good start in school. The School Nurse
must be sure that each entering student meets the
rigorous NYS vaccination requirements. The
School Nurse is a Safe person in a new
environment and an integral part of the link
between home and school Trained assessments and
mandated reporting are other key roles that a
nurse fills.
6Bus Driver In-service
- Nurses Marilyn Alt Laura Steere
Conduct a First Aid in-service to the bus drivers
to help them be prepared in the event of a
medical issue or emergency.
7Puberty Program
5th Graders and their Parents have a great
opportunity to learn about the passage from child
to adolescent from Nurses Janice Crane Marilyn
Alt. Getting prepared for the Hormone Explosion!!
8Reaching out to Families in need
Each of the Nurses contributes to the community
in many ways. Food Pantry, making sure that the
Holidays are special for the children. We Care,
Share and Show it both as a group and as
individuals.

CHAT members were honored on several billboards
around Syracuse by the Rescue Mission. We are
one of the largest, most consistent volunteer
groups that donate their time. It gives our
students some insight as to how others deal with
challenges, and gives them gratitude for their
lifestyles and appreciate what they have!!

Marilyn has helped to establish the American lung
Association Open Airways Program for 5th
graders. Being offered now for the first time.

Tending to lots of little people for 18 years as
a Phoenix Nurse. She is proud to be a key staff
person that helps kids become comfortable in
school . When she is out and about town, one of
the joys she has is hearing children happily
telling there parents Hey, thats my school
nurse!

When Janice Crane is not working as a nurse,
holding a walking group, enjoying her cats,
knitting or collecting shells, she is
volunteering with the Phoenix Fire Auxiliary.
Ahh, then there is relaxing at the Cottage on the
shores on Lake Ontario!!
