• Technology is used to examine understand where
  things are located.
• Sonar? Sound, Navigation, Ranging
• Uses sound to determine distance direction.
• Remote Sensing? Satellite images are used to
  evaluate land use.
• GIS? Geographic Information Systems
• Uses computer technology to develop a
  multi-layered view of the earths surface to help
  solve geographic problems.

Location

• Where a place is located.
• Two Types of Location
• Absolute Position on the globe.
• The Equator divides the earth into two halves or
  Hemispheres.
• Latitude Longitude? Latitude Imaginary lines
  that run parallel to the equator. Longitude
  Imaginary lines or meridians that run N to S.
• Relative Location in relation to other places.

• Every place on earth has unique features that
  distinguishes it from others. This is called
• Character of a Place
• Physical Characteristics Landforms, ecosystems,
  Climate
• Human Characteristic How many people and what
  kind of people live, work, and visit a place.

Regions

• A Region is a group of places that share a common
  characteristic.
• 3 Types of Regions
• Formal Region An area where certain
  characteristics are found throughout the area.
• Functional Region Consists of a central place
  and the surrounding places affected by it.
• Linked by the flow or movement of something
• Perceptual Region Defined by peoples feelings
  an attitudes about an area.
