Title: BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION

1
BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION
  • Biometric is the technology of authenticating a
    persons identity by verifying a
    personal characteristic.
  • Example of biometric are include fingerprint,
hand geometric, facial feature, voice, signature,
    and eye patterns.

2
FINGERPRINT SCANNER
  • A fingerprint scanner captures curves and
    indentations of a fingerprint
  • External fingerprint scanner usually plug into a
    parallel or USB port.
  • The quality of a fingerprint may very
substantially from person to person and ever
    finger to finger.
  • Extract fingerprint feature, involves thinning
the ridges of the raw image to a minuscule size
and than converting the characteristic to binary
    format.

3
A FACE RECOGNITION SYSTEM
  • A face recognition system captures a live face
image and compares it with a stored image to
determine if the person is a legitimate user.
  • Some buildings use face recognition systems to
secure access to rooms. Law enforcement,
surveillance systems, and airport use face
    recognition to protect the public.
  • These programs are becoming more sophisticated
and can recognize people with or without glasses,
makeup, or jewelry, and with new hairstyle.

4
EYE PATTERNS
  • Iris recognition is based on the most
mathematically unique biometric - the iris of the
    eye.
  • The human iris is absolutely unique, even
between twins or an individual's right and left
    eyes.
  • The iris itself is stable throughout a person's
life (approximately from the age of one).
  • The physical characteristics of the iris do not
    change with age.
  • None of the other biometric solutions, including
fingerprint, facial recognition, retina scan, and
voice recognition provide the level of accuracy,
speed, or cost-effectiveness found with iris
    recognition technology.

5
VOICE VERIFICATION SYSTEM
  • A voice verification system compares a persons
live speech with their stored voice pattern.
  • Larger organizations sometimes use voice
verification systems as time and attendance
    devices.
  • Many companies also use this technology for
access to sensitive files and networks.
  • Some financial voice verification systems to
    secure telephone banking transactions.
