• Be clear at the beginning about which funding
  streams you may want to consider
• Involve funding leads in developing the Self
  Assessment

Approach - 1

• Used sample approach 10 of existing service
  users
• Costed social care services proved difficult
  partic Mental Health ( treatment v social support
  )
• Analysed data
• Adjusted and then tested
• Establish cycle of learning tools
• Still provided IB allocation as we wanted
  parallel learning about approach also
• Captured what worked, didnt work adjusted at
  approx 3 month intervals
• Retain and map data from desktop IB allocations
  to keep a hold on impact.

  where RAS varies to existing provision
• Areas were didnt work couples, night time
  support, carers
• Further amendments
• Further work on aligning other funding streams
  supporting people, continuing care, ICES, ILF
• Designed process training for all staff involved
  in assessment across partnership

  outcomes

Top tips

• Keep it short and simple
• Only collect information that you really need
  that informs the Individual Budget
• Be flexible some people want to DIY, some want
  to complete jointly with professional staff
• Be clear up front about the outcomes that the
  partnership is prepared to pay for whilst placing
  as few restrictions as possible on how people
  spend the money
