What is a Software Pirate?

• Pirate v. One who makes use of or reproduces
  anothers work, esp. literary work or software,
  illicitly or without permission.
• Pirates are of two types Those who copy
  software for personal use, and those who sell
  copied software for a monetary gain.

• Most people, especially Americans, generally take
  a neutral role in judging piracy.
• Traditionally, piracy is viewed in whatever light
  suits a person best.

Anti-Pirate Method 1 Coding

• The most common method is to write
  anti-reproduction programs into the product
• However, this type of anti-piracy only lasts as
  long as it takes the pirates to bypass it.

• The Dongle acts like a Car Key. The program
  wont start without it.
• But, cars get stolen too.

  fined over 8,000
• Vinh Trinh
• Nhat Hai
• SingPC
• It would have been cheaper to buy the software
  legally.

Anti-Pirate Method 4 Congress

• The House of Representatives introduced the
  Piracy Deterrence and Education Act in 2003
• In late 2004, the House passed the Act to the
  Senate.
• Today, the Act has yet to leave the Senate.
