  perception of pit bulls.

Why Pit Bulls?

• I have this WONDERFUL pit bull.
• Every time I tell people that I have a pit bull,
  they look at me like Are you SERIOUS? Aren't you
  SCARED?
• I want to show people the other side of these
  LOVEABLE and SWEET dogs!

Oaklands BIG Problem

• Oakland has a HUGE population of UNWANTED pit
  bulls in shelters.
• If these pit bulls DO NOT find homes, they get
  EUTHANIZED.

What did I learn?

• Pit bulls do not attack humans because they WANT
  to bite them.
• Pit bulls are aggressive only towards other
  animals.
• Pit bulls love to play with children, and to
  swim.

History of pit bulls

• Pit bulls date back to the late 1700s in England
• They were used for hunting and herding cattle,
  and for bull bating, events that lasted many
  hours, in which dogs were forced to fight with
  bulls
• Pit bulls were also forced to participate in
  ratting, in which they were placed in pits with
  rats inside, and had to fight and claw their way
  out
• Pit bulls had a rough start in America when the
  American Kennel Club (AKC) refused to recognize
  them as an official dog breed
• Since the AKC did not recognize some breeds,
  another organization was formed, the United
  Kennel Club (UKC), to recognize pit bulls and
  other neglected breeds

Abused Pit Bulls

• On July 18, 2007, NFL Quarterback Michael Vick
  was charged torturing and killing dogs as part of
  a dog fighting ring
• 50 pit bulls were taken from Vicks house
• 13 of those dogs were brought to the Bay Area by
  BAD RAP representatives

What YOU can do to help

• DO NOT buy pit bulls from breeders.
• ADOPT a pit Bull from your local shelter.
• DONATE money or food to your local shelter.
• TEACH others what you learned today!
• WHY help? Just think of ALL of the dogs that are
  dying because they dont have a voice.
