3INTRODUCTION
- In this project, we are going to
discuss deforestation in Hong Kong. We focus on
the condition in Lugard Road. Then, we will
divide the project into different parts and ask
questions to tell you what happened in Hong Kong.
4Where can we find woodland in Hong Kong today ?
- In Hong Kong, large areas of completely
natural woodland are not founded. But we can find
the other natural woodland in Hong Kong such as - The Peak
- Green Island (??)
- Lantau Peak
-
5What are the characteristics of woodland in Hong
Kong ?
- Density of vegetation
- Great density of vegetation
- many types of vegetations
- 2) Floor of the woodland (light or dark)
- The floor is very dark
- 3) Variety of vegetation
- very large (For example
6What are the characteristics of woodland in Hong
Kong ?
- 4) Height of the vegetation
- The vegetation is tall.
- 5) Roots of the vegetation
- The roots are long and straight.
- 6) Shape and size of leaves
- Broad leaves to absorb sunlight
- Drip tips for shed water quickly
7What are the problems of woodland of Hong Kong ?
- Trees on steep slopes may easily fall down
- No tree root to bind the soil
- Increase demand for wood
- Habitats for wild plants and animals can be
destroyed
8What are the causes of the problems?
- Trees on steep slopes may easily fall down
- When raining, rainwater erodes the soil.
Therefore, trees fall down easily. - No Tree root to bind the soil
- When typhoon comes, wind blows the loosen soil.
- Human constructions constantly loosen the soil.
9What are the causes of the problems
- Demand for wood increase
- - Demand for wood by human beings
-
- Habitats for wild plants and animals can be
destroyed - Government ignores the importance of vegetation
cover.
10How do these problems affect our lives ?
- Trees on the steep slope may easily fall down
- - causing traffic jam and damage some buildings
- No Tree root to bind the soil
- Cause the landslide
- Trees collapse easily when typhoon comes to Hong
Kong - People living in the woodland need timber
- - Affect our natural environment
- Habitats for wild plants and animals can be
destroyed - - The natural environment is changed by some
plants and animals destroyed.
11Are we able to solve the problems ?
They are able to solve the problems. For example
- Ban on logging
- Join tree-planting programmes
- Saving paper
- Do not cut the tree
- Improving education on environment
- Join the environment organization
12What is the best use our woodland ?
- Setting up National Parks
- Setting up Nature Trail
- Setting up Country Park
- Setting up Mountain Biking Trails
- Setting up Camping areas
- Setting up woodland exhibition center
13How can we help protect our woodland and tropical
rainforest ?
- Donate money to the organization such as Green
Power, Green Peace. - Learn more information about the rainforest.
- Do not waste lots of exhaust gas.
- Do not cut more trees
14Conclusion
-
- To sum up, we know that there are a few
woodland problems in Hong Kong. And we know the
causes about the deforestation in Hong Kongs
woodland.
