Kamen, DC regional opening remarks
2
Introduction
  • ILITEs business plan applies the same
principles of success as our team applies when
    developing a successful Robot. ILITEs
organizational structure is based on our research
of current technology industry business models
which we adapted to the specific goals of
ILITE. We take an effects based approach that
challenges our team to meet increasingly more
    complex goals.

3
Team Business Structure
  • ILITE is composed of several independently
operating sub-system teams that are integrated
into a single functioning team. This approach
maximizes our teams available resources and
allows sub-system teams to operate unencumbered
by many outside factors while still maintaining
    overall project awareness and addressing
    interoperability.

4
Growth Plan
  • ILITE has developed an aggressive growth plan to
inspire new members, sponsors, mentors, and
    government leaders through an innovative
combination of individual contact and technology
based outreach. Through this process ILITE has
successfully petitioned for and received grants
which the team has ear-marked for county wide
curriculum development at the middle school and
    high school level.

5
Risk and Mitigation
  • Because ILITE is engaged in an aggressive growth
strategy requiring significant time, talent, and
funding we have assumed risk in the availability
of resources to support the teams robot
construction. The corporate sponsors and civilian
officials we petition for curriculum development
funding are also our teams sponsors. This
requires ILITE to continuously pursue new
sponsors to maintain our growing need for support.

6
Risk and Mitigation Cont.
  • ILITE continues to push the limits of integrating
innovative and highly technical designs and
systems into our planning and construction.
  • We have continued to maintain the high
recognition that our stakeholders expect from
    their sponsorship.
  • Rookie All-Star (VCU-2006, Palmetto-2006)
  • Rookie All-Star World Champion (2006)
  • Web site Award (Las Vegas-2006)
  • Engineering Inspiration (VCU-2008, DC-2009)

7
Success
  • ILITEs goal is to inspire and educate future
science and technology leaders through personal
contact and collaboration with industry mentors
and sponsors. This hands-on exposure to current
technology and business leaders transfers a
wealth of knowledge and experience to FIRST
participants. This exchange of knowledge occurs
in the areas of technology, leadership,
    management and entrepreneurship.

8
Success Cont.
  • ILITE is continuing to develop funding sources
and curriculum changes for implementation in the
    2009-2010 school year.
  • Continued use of high school underwater robotics
and middle school robotics curriculum as
instrumental tools in engaging new members.
  • Community and intra/inter-state collaboration and
outreach assists ILITE and the entire FIRST
    enterprise.

9
Success Cont.
  • 2009-2010 Grants
  • 2009-2010 ILITE (FIRST) enrollment 90 rising
    Freshmen have already signed up
  • Continue DC FIRST collaboration and peer
    mentoring (Build Day)
  • Balance achievement with fun and education
