8A Key Enabler
- Spatial information is a of key enabler
- The majority of all information can be tied to a
location - Location forms a common link between disparate
data - Location forms a common link between data over
time - Location provides a readily understood context
9Common Analytical Platform
10The Business Problem
Within the context of the Australian Government
there is a lack of
- Metadata
- Quality
- Standards
- Culture
- Discoverability
- Access
- Consistency
- Silo-based
11The Driver Social Inclusion
- Social Inclusion is a national priority
established by the Australian Government in
December 2007. - The purpose of Social Inclusion is to achieve
better outcomes for the most disadvantaged in our
community. - Location is recognised as a critical factor and
common link in the analysis of key indicators. - Resulted in the recent development of the
Commonwealth Spatial Data Integration (CSDI)
Pilot Program.
12The CSDI Pilot Program
- Program led by DHS in partnership with Geoscience
Australia and ABS, and in consultation with AGIMO - Key objective of the pilot program is to
establish and demonstrate a proof-of-concept of
the feasibility of sharing and integrating
Australian Government information and fundamental
spatial data, by using best practice delivery
mechanisms
13The CSDI Pilot Program - Vision
- through whole of government collaboration, will
strengthen the Australian Governments ability to
deliver social policy by developing and
implementing a coordinated approach to the
sharing of information with locational attributes
that can underpin broader research,
evidence-based policy development, evaluation,
refinement and service delivery.
14Geoscience Australia Role
- Develop and implement the proof-of-concept
through the technical pilot - Develop the conceptual and technical framework
recommended as the approach for the second pass
business case - Establish and chair the CSDI Technology
Sub-Working Group
