Habitat
  • A habitat is a place where plants and animals can
meet their needs. Different plants and animals
    live in different habitats.

6
Habitat
  • There are four types of land habitats
  • Woodland forest
  • Rain forest
  • Desert
  • Arctic

7
Woodland Forest
  • A woodland forest is a habitat that gets enough
rain and sunlight for trees to grow well.
Animals may use the trees for food and shelter.
Some may make their homes in trees. They eat
    nuts and insects found there.

8
Rain Forest
  • A rainforest is a habitat where it rains almost
every day. It is warm in many rain forests.
Because of the heavy rainfall, trees and plants
grow well. Trees and plants also serve as food
    and shelter for many animals.

9
Desert
  • A desert is a dry habitat. It gets less rain in
a year than most plants and animals need to live.
A cactus is an example of a plant that lives in
the desert. It survives in this habitat by
storing water in the thick stems.

10
Arctic
  • The arctic is a very cold place near the North
Pole. Snow is on the ground for much of the
year. The snow melts for only a short time in
the summer. In summer, plants grow very low to
the ground to serve as food for the animals that
    live there.

Summary
  • You have now learned about the four land
habitats. You may choose to take the quiz now,

Quiz Menu
  • Question One
  • Question Two
  • Question Three
  • Question Four
  • Question Five

13
Question One
  • Which habitat would a polar bear live in?
  • a) Rain Forest
  • b) Arctic
  • c) Woodland Forest

14
Correct!
  • Polar Bears live in the Arctic habitat. They are
able to survive in the cold weather because of
    their fur coat.

15
Try Again!
  • Hint
  • Polar Bears have a thick coat to keep them warm
    in cold temperatures.

16
Question Two
  • Which habitat would a pine tree grow in best?
  • a) Desert
  • b) Arctic
  • c) Woodland Forest

17
Nice Job!
  • Pine Trees can be found
  • in woodland forests because they
  • are able to survive in warm as well
  • as cold weather.

18
Oops!
  • Hint
  • Pine trees can survive in
  • warm and cold weather.

19
Question Three
  • Which habitat is closest to the North Pole?
  • a) Rain Forest
  • b) Desert
  • c) Arctic

20
Excellent!
  • Since the arctic has snow almost year round, it
is closest to the North Pole. The desert and
rain forest have are warm and therefore are
further away from the North Pole.

21
Incorrect
  • Hint
  • The North Pole is very cold.

22
Question Four
  • Which habitat would a tree frog live in?
  • a) Desert
  • b) Arctic
  • c) Rain Forest

23
Fabulous!
  • Tree frogs live in the rainforest. They would
not be able to survive in the arctic because of
the cold temperatures and would not survive in
the desert because of extremely hot temperatures.

24
Try Again!
  • Hint
  • Tree Frogs like to live in a wet and warm
    environment.

25
Question Five
  • What plant would grow in the desert?
  • a) Maple Tree
  • b) Rose
  • c) Cactus

26
Great!
  • Cactus can survive in the desert because they are
able to store water inside during the long
periods of time where there is no rain fall.

27
Oops!
  • Hint
  • Deserts do not have a lot of rainfall,
  • so this plant can survive for a long period of
    time without water.
