Plot Of The Lord Of the Rings
  • This book is the second book in the series, the
    first being the Hobbit
  • The Hobbit was the adventures of a Hobbit named
    Bilbo Baggins
  • The Lord of the Rings is about the adventures of
his nephew, Frodo Baggins, with the help of 3
other hobbits, one wizard, a ranger, a dwarf of
the mountains, and an elf of the Woodland Relm
  • Frodo meets many characters, good and bad along
the way, along with a very powerful and evil
Ring. The purpose of Frodos journey is to
destroy this magical Ring. The Ring brings
horror, trouble, and maybe even death to anyone
who has anything to do with it. It also gives
power to evil beings and spirits
  • Frodo must destroy this ring while the eye of
evil watches all and prepares for a horrible war
  • Beings under the power of the ring wish to
destroy all, and Frodo must stop them

The Setting of the Lord Of The Rings
  • The Lord of the Rings takes place in Middle
    Earth, a fictional place
  • In this novel, the most common settings are the
    Shire, Mordor, and Gondor
  • The Shire is where hobbits live, and it is an
extremely pleasant and polite town, a very
peaceful as well. There are many happy families
that live in the shire, and anyone who tries to
bring adventure of any sort are labeled the
disturber of the peace. Gandalf (a wizard) was
labeled this because he told Bilbo Baggins about
adventures, and gave him a little nudge out of
    the door, as Gandalf says
  • The shire is a very calm, charming place that the
hobbits call their home with gladness

Frodo Baggins
  • Frodo Baggins is the nephew and inheritor of most
of Bilbo Baggins fortunes, once Bilbo goes away
    from the Shire to retire
  • Frodo lived with Bilbo for quite a while, and
they were very fond of each other
  • Frodo is given the Ring of Power and he must
travel to Mount Doom in Mordor and destroy it in
the place where it was made. Frodo is
accompanied by a few other people, not all normal
    humans
  • Frodo is a very kind hobbit. Tolkien writes as
an introduction to Frodos character, The eldest
of these nephews of Bilbo, and Bilbos
favorite, was young Frodo Baggins. When Bilbo
was 99 he adopted Frodo as his heir, and brought
him to live at Bag End Bilbo Baggins house.
    (p. 22).

Gandalf The Grey
  • Gandalf is a very wise and powerful wizard who
assists Frodo on his journey and helps destroy
The Ring and its evil beings.
  • Gandalf is a kind man, who is always willing to
lend a helping hand. He is very generous, and
even sacrifices things from his life for the
    Fellowship of the Ring.
  • Tolkien writes after Gandalf came to visit Frodo
after not seeing Frodo for a long time, Secretly
Frodo thought that Gandalf looked older and
more careworn soon they were deep in talk, and
they stayed up far into the night. The fact
that Gandalf looked careworn is because he has
been working very hard to keep peace in Middle
Earth as much as possible. The fact that they
stayed up late into the night talking shows that
    he is insightful and interesting.
  • Gandalf is an important character because he is
one of the only ways for hobbits in Hobbiton to
know what is going on in Middle Earth outside the
    Shires boarders.

Friendship Major Theme
  • Friendship is a major theme of the Lord Of The
    Rings
  • The Fellowship of the Ring is what the group that
joins Frodo on his journey to destroy the ring
  • The Fellowship have some beings who are nicer to
some then other, but over all, they are one tight
group. They pull each other out of many
situations that threaten horrible things, maybe
    even death.
  • This book makes it clear that staying together as
a team is a very important aspect of life. This
book reveals that friendship can pull you out of
any situation that one can be stuck in.
