18- Benefits
of Hosting a Wi-Fi Hotspot - The overall benefit or goal of hosting a Wi-Fi
hotspot at your location is being able to offer
high-speed wireless Internet access to satisfying
the needs of connectivity for your customers and
visitors. - Other benefits of hosting a Wi-Fi hotspot include
these - Attract people to your location
- Generate additional revenue
- Attract People to Your Location
- Hosting a Wi-Fi hotspot, in any type of business,
should attract new people to your location and
entice them to return and stay longer. For retail
stores such as cafés and bookstores, this access
helps fill empty seats. For businesses such as
hotels, having Wi-Fi Internet access available
for guests might be essential to prevent losing
potential customers. - Generate Additional Revenue
- While you are providing a convenient service to
your customers and visitors by hosting a Wi-Fi
hotspot, you might also generate some additional
revenue for your business or organization. Here
are ways that you can create some revenue - Indirect sales of your products or services
- Hotspot network commissions
- Fees from an independent fee-based hotspot
- Advertising revenue
19- Estimating this potential indirect benefit is
difficult for any business - or organization. To start, ask yourself a few
questions based on - your particular situation
- Are your current customers or visitors the type
who would sit at your location with - a laptop and check e-mail or browse the
Internet? - How many people do you think this hotspot would
attract? - Will hotspot users buy products and services?
- How much will your revenue increase by hosting a
hotspot? - Download electronic (printable version) document

20Just Imagine The DEMOGRAPHICS and Synergies of
Wal-Mart and HIGH SPEEED Broadband and its
capability of service offering (i.e. broadband
TV/video, Voice over IP, Internet radios and MP3
download, online coupons) -- all in one
everything Wal-Mart............think of the
DEMOGRAPHICS of how many stores, how many
shoppers, how many POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS hit their
front door every day Let me expound this idea a
little further. Wal-Mart certainly does own A LOT
of real estate with buildings EVERYWHERE in the
country. I think the Wal-Mart rooftops could be a
very HOT and precious commodity similar to the
Central Office (CO) of a Telco Data Center-
perhaps going to the highest bidder or perhaps
Wal-Mart will keep it for themselves. I bet 90
of the population is within 25 miles of a
Wal-Mart - well within the range of
WiMAX. Wal-Mart (The next Generation ISP) could
not only provide VoIP over WiMAX - they could
become the next Internet Service Provider (ISP)
that takes down the titans in Canada known as
Bell, Telus, Roger and Shaw. Forget Triple Play!
Imagine the bundling deals Wal-Mart could do!
They could offer Internet connectivity, broadband
TV/video, online coupons, and much more. In
theory, they could have their own special web
browser that pops up with specials going on at
the local Wal-Mart. ( i.e. "If you leave in the
next 30 minutes, and go to the nearest Wal-Mart
you can purchase a new Toro XYZ lawnmower for
just 99.99!"). Wal-Mart can even offer the
first year of WiMAX Internet connectivity for
free just to build up the base and then start
charging. Actually, I have a prediction to make.
Soon there will be virtually no profit in just a
plain dumb bandwidth pipe - it will be about the
enhanced services such as voice, video/TV,
wireless access, etc. ISPs and especially
broadband bandwidth providers will be so
competitive -- just like the VoIP players today
-- that they will offer bandwidth for free and
then charge you for services. So if my "FREE
broadband Internet prediction" is correct, soon
broadband Internet access will follow in the
footsteps of the recent "VoIP price wars" which
are causing VoIP prices to inch closer and closer
to free. It's a fun time we are living
in... Wal-Mart Community participation using

environmental concern will be address through
