- An essential component of UN programme for reform
by the UN SG - Provides a collective, coherent and integrated UN
system response to national priorities and needs - Aims to coordinate strategies for consolidating
info, facilitating joint programmes, and
integrating UN agency programmes with those of
the Government

- Agreed on five broad UNDAF priority areas
- Strengthening Capacities and Capabilities for
Achieving the MDGs - Strengthening Good Governance
- Improving Economic Performance Management and
Generating Employment - Sustainable Development, Disaster Management and
Energy Efficiency - Facilitating the Transfer of Science and
Technology for Development in All Areas of
Cooperation
4Following Gajereh Workshop
- A Joint UN/Govt UNDAF Management Group and 5
joint sub-working groups (sectoral) formed to
prepared the UNDAF document - Extensive UN/Government consultations
- Consultations with other stakeholders
- Specific UNDAF outcomes and results indicators
identified for each priority area. - UNDAF document prepared and approved in Aug. 2004
by Government and UN system agencies.
5UNDAF 1 - STRENGTHENING CAPACITIES AND
CAPABILITIES FOR ACHIEVING THE MDGS
- UNDAF outcome - Quality basic education
services, primary health care, including
reproductive health care and HIV/AIDS prevention
and care services, are incrementally available
for all in need, particularly vulnerable groups
including youth, children, women and the poor and
their rights to participate in development
fulfilled national capacity for MDG monitoring
established.
6UNDAF 2 - ENHANCING GOOD GOVERNANCE
- UNDAF outcome - Capacities for a transparent and
accountable Governance system adhering to the
rule of law strengthened and effective national
management system institutions established in
accordance with recommendations from UN and
international conferences.
7UNDAF 3 - IMPROVING ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE
MANAGEMENT AND GENERATING EMPLOYMENT
- UNDAF outcome - Improved combined economic
performance and employment generation in Iran by
raising human capabilities and utilizing
sustainable small-technologies, especially for
the unemployed, poor, women, youth and
encouraging small and medium sized enterprises.
8UNDAF 4 - SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, DISASTER
MANAGEMENT AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- UNDAF outcome 4.1 - Global and national
environmental concerns and environmentally
sensitive development integrated into national
development frameworks and implemented through
community-based approaches to the sustainable use
of natural resources, capacity building,
environmental assessments and the removal of
financial, economic, legal, institutional and
technological barriers.
9UNDAF 4 - SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, DISASTER
MANAGEMENT AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- Outcome 4.2 - Strengthened disaster risk
management at national and local levels.
10UNDAF 5 - FACILITATING TRANSFER OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY
- UNDAF outcome - Improved national capacity for
science and technology management, research and
development.
11UNDAF Implementation
- UN UNDAF Theme Groups/Working Groups formed for
each UNDAF outcome area for follow up
coordination - Approval and implementation of harmonized UN
agency Country Programmes in line with UNDAF
priorities - Continued consultations with the Government and
other stakeholders through different channels,
e.g. line ministries, agency programmes
12UNDAF Annual Review Objectives
- The Review should provide the UN system and the
Government with - A yearly update of overall progress vis-à-vis the
UNDAF Results Framework. - Validation of conclusions and recommendations
that should feed into annual planning processes.

results - Lessons learned, best practices, and follow up
action plans
14Looking Ahead
- An UNDAF Annual Review Report summarizing the
findings and recommendations will be prepared - Realignment and adjustments to UNDAF and agency
programmes, as necessary - A mid-term review in 2007
