Achievement Test)

and achievement standards revised in academic
year 2000 - Assessment developed with Educational Testing
Service (ETS) - Direct input for the development with Puerto
Rican educators in Puerto Rico - All requirements are met to comply with No Child
Left Behind, as well as local requirements

- The PRDE complies with assessment and
accountability requirements and uses the Spanish
Language Arts assessment, whereas, in the states
it is English Language Arts - Tests were developed in 2002 in four grades
- Spring 2006 is fourth year of administration

assessment program understands the importance of
the Spanish that is used in Puerto Rico in all
aspects (written, spoken, and read)

13Item Development Process
- Committees of educators from different grade
levels review the standards and develop the
specifications of the test - The company trained educators on how to develop
items and use these developed by the committees - Contractor presents a draft of all the items to
the committees of Puerto Ricos educators - Items are field tested island wide
- Contractor determines after the necessary
analysis, which items are eligible for inclusion
on future tests
