Cuban Independence
  • Teller Amendment 1898 The U.S. did not intend to
    control Cuba.
  • For the next 4 years, the U.S. military governed
    Cuba.
  • Cubans that protested this were imprisoned or
    exiled.

Platt Amendment
  • U.S. govt forced Cuba to include the Platt
    Amendment in its constitution.
  • Platt Amendment 1901
  • Cuba could not make treaties that might limit its
    independence.
  • U.S. reserved the right to intervene in Cuba to
    maintain order.
  • Cuba could not go into debt.
  • U.S. could buy or lease land on the island for
    naval or coaling stations.

  • Filipinos wanted independence from Spainnot to
