Math Department Action PlanEASTWOOD ACADEMY
  • August 2008

2
The 10th Grade Drop-Off
  • The Math department saw a regression of growth by
    13.
  • All departments saw a 10th grade regression, with
the exception of Science. However, Math had the
    highest regression.
  • East Early Colleges regression almost exactly
mirrors ours, especially in the sense that their
    math regression is their highest.
  • Possibility The higher percentage of students
who are a year ahead in math in these schools may
    be a contributing factor.

3
TAKS Strengths and Weaknesses
  • Examination of TAKS data identified specific
    strengths and weaknesses.
  • These areas persisted across all grade levels.
  • Definition of a weak objective
  • Performance was below 80, or
  • School lost more than half its lead against the
district from 9th to 11th grade.
  • Strengths Objectives 4, 7.
  • Weaknesses Objectives 2, 3, 8, 9

4
2008-2009 SMART Goal
  • At least 90 of students grades 9-11 will pass
TAKS w/ increase scale score by at least 5.

5
Specific Strategies / Actions

district who are experiencing similar problems
with 10th grade regression and collaborate with
    these campuses to find solutions.

tutoring sessions and TAKS Review classes.

7
Mentors and Intervention
  • Students were identified as at risk for not
meeting TAKS standard based on the following
    criteria

  • A year-to-year growth of less than 100 points (or
    year-to-year loss) .

8
Mentors and Intervention (cont.)
  • Employ the All Kinds of Minds model for at-risk
    students.
  • Contact alumni to serve as mentors for current
    students who are at-risk.
