- DISCOVER is an online, web-based career planning
system available free of charge to all enrolled
WKU students who are registered with the Career
Services Center - Users can identify and build a career plan based
on a developmental guidance process

organization that provides assessments, research,
information, and program management services in
the broad areas of educational planning, career

- There are four assessment components in
DISCOVER
- The World of Work Map, an interpretive aid that
provides a comprehensive overview of occupations
in the work world.
- The Unisex Edition of the ACT Interest Inventory
(UNIACT).

(IWRA).
- 4. The Inventory of Work Preferences (IWP), a
subset of items in the Inventory of World
Relevant Values.

- World of Work Map
- The World of Work Map displays areas of related
occupations
- The location of each career area on the map
indicates the combination of work tasks most
prevalent in that career area
- The further away the career area is from the
center, the more well defined that area is with
respect to data, people, things, and ideas

- The ACT Interest Inventory
- Contains 15 items for each of its six scales- 90
items total
- Takes about 12-15 minutes to complete
- Items emphasize work relevant activities

- Results are categorized in Science and Technology
(I), Arts (A), Social Service (S), Administrative
Sales (E), Business Operations (C), and
Technical (R)

- Provides self estimates for 15 abilities
- Each ability is accompanied by a definition
expressed in everyday terms and a list of
relevant experiences to consider

- Takes about 5-15 minutes to complete
- The 15 abilities used in DISCOVER were identified
by ACTs Research Division as those which cover
important abilities needed to perform well in
occupations related to each of the six DISCOVER
clusters

- The purpose of this inventory is to help
individuals find out which work relevant values
are important
- DISCOVER can help individuals explore career
areas that are likely to satisfy the values they
prefer most, and avoid those they prefer least

- Takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
- Research has identified twenty-two work related
values, grouped into four categories work
setting, work tasks, work preparation, and work
opportunities.
