Secondary Reading Scope Sequence

• The Secondary Reading SS is a curriculum
  framework that will ensure the aligned Reading
  Sunshine State Standards and FCAT Reading
  Reporting Clusters are taught in the designated
  grade levels throughout the school year
  district-wide.

Secondary Reading Scope Sequence

• This framework will provide teachers with
  instructional guidelines within a time period or
  cycle.
• The Secondary Reading SS includes tools for
  teachers to make plans for daily instruction
  based on their students instructional needs.

Reading Clusters

• The FCAT Reading Reporting Clusters are four
  areas of reading or clusters that are assessed
  on the Reading FCAT (Words Phrases, Main Idea,
  Comparison/Cause Effect, and Reference
  Research).
• The SS Reading Benchmarks are aligned to each of
  the four Clusters.

Timeline (Cycles)

• The timeline is comprised of 5 cycles. Each cycle
  is 4-6 weeks in length. Throughout each cycle the
  benchmarks are strategically taught within a
  tiered approach.
• Benchmarks are introduced and repeated based on
  district instructional needs within the first
  three cycles. The fourth cycle is reserved for
  schools developed FCAT Reading Action Plan
  implementation. The fifth cycle occurs after FCAT
  in which selected benchmarks will be reviewed.

Timeline (Cycles)

• The Secondary Reading SS is uniform in that
  recommended Clusters and Benchmarks are suggested
  for instruction within a cycle of time however,
  the Secondary Reading SS is flexible in that the
  instructional cycle is a time period of 4-6 weeks
  that is not specific to daily implementation.

  plan daily instruction within the suggested
  framework of the Secondary Reading SS.

• Learning Targets
• Drill-Down Benchmarks
• Model Lesson Plans

  Model Lesson Plans for Grades 6 9 to include

• Best Practices
• New Reading/LA SSS Alignment

Secondary Reading Scope Sequence

• FY2008 Secondary Reading SS is on our Division
  of Curriculum website.
• Teachers will have on-line access to Model Lesson
  Plans on Learning Village.
