NBCTs Impact Student Learning
A Majority of NBPTS Research Studies Found NBCTs
Make a Significantly Measurable Impact. More
than 150 studies have examined the NBC process
and the vast majority found NBCTs make a
significantly measurable impact on teacher
performance and student learning, engagement and
achievement. More information may be found at
the NBPTS website under Research www.nbprts.org
9
Research--NBCTs Impact Student Learning
  • Goldhaber, Vandevoorts, Caballuzzo, Smith found
  • NBCTs
  • Outperform peers.
  • Show significant teaching improvement.
  • Students of NBCTs
  • Score higher on year-end tests.
  • Achievement gains an extra month in school.
  • Exhibit deeper learning.

Some Studies Show Mixed Results
  • Sanders, MColskey J. Stronge, Harris Sass
    found
  • Students of NBCTs performed at the same level.
  • Candidates lost ground during the year of
    certification.
  • BUT
  • NBCTs showed
  • Student gains by race, gender, and certain grades
    and subjects.
  • Best practice in planning and assignments.
  • Impact on teachers to show student gains.
  • More information may be found at the NBPTS
    website under Research www.nbpts.org
