Yes, Red Wine Holds Answer. Check Dosage.

Resveratrol
  • Reasearchers report that resveratrol can offset
the negative effects of a high calorie diet.
  • Resveratrol is found on the skin of grapes and
    red wine

3
The Experiment
  • One group of mice was put on a diet where 60 of
    the calories came from fat.
  • Another group of mice was also fed this high fat
diet, but with a large daily dose of resveratrol.
  • A final control group was set up of standard
    healthy diet mice.

4
The Results
  • The group with the fatty diet, but no resveratrol
soon grew oversized livers and were beginning to
    show signs of diabetes.
  • The mice enjoying a fatty diet and reservatrol,
showed lower levels of glucose and insulin in the
blood and had normally sized livers.
  • In fact, the reservatrol mice outlived those just
on a fatty diet by several months.

winner!
5
Problems
  • The mice's intake was 24 milligrams of
resveratrol per killogram. A bottle of red wine
contains 1.5-3 milligrams. An average person
would have to drink about a 1000 bottles.
  • The theory about why resveratrol works is still
    unproven.
  • Its effect on humans is not yet certain.
  • According to Dr. Sinclair resveratrol works best
at activating the SIRT-1 gene (silent information
regulator which helps cells live longer), this
also is not proven and needs to be published.

6
What's going to happen?
  • Is a resveratrol supplement (pill) something that
could become common in the next few years?
  • Will the use of resveratrol make obesity more
accepted and prevalent in our society?
