Nature of Atoms

• Atoms that do not have full valence energy levels
  are reactive b/c they want to gain, lose or share
  e- to get a full energy level!
• Hydrogen could lose 1e- so that it has none!
  (forms H ions) like other alkali metals
• Hydrogen could gain 1e- (or share 1!) so that it
  has 2e- and a full outer energy level (H2) like
  other halogens.
