Scope of Training
  • This presentation outlines General Emergency
    Procedures
  • Location specific training will still be needed
    after reviewing this presentation.

3
Prior To An Emergency
Planning
  • Know the location of at least two emergency exits
    in your work area.
  • Familiarize yourself with the building/room
    escape route.
  • Know the location of your designated assembly
    area.

Note An emergency flashlight may be needed to
aid those escaping.
4
Evacuate
  • Occupants must evacuate a building when any of
    the following situations occur
  • An emergency alarm sounds.
  • A life threatening situation occurs in a
    building.
  • When the Building Emergency Planner orders an
    evacuation.

TREAT ALL EMERGENCY ALARMS AS THE REAL THING It
is better to be inconvenienced than trapped.
5
When Evacuating
  • Avoid Panic
  • Remain Calm
  • Use Common Sense
  • Render Assistance As Needed
  • Do Not Use An Elevator

?
6
Report The Emergency
  • Once you have evacuated immediately report the
    emergency by calling 911.

Note Dialing 911 from a cell phone or a
non-campus phone will connect you with Provo Fire
Department. You will be connected with
University Police if calling from a campus phone.
7
After Reporting The Emergency
  • Meet at your designated assembly area.
  • Listen and heed instructions broadcast over the
University outdoor warning system. If a radio is
available tune into KBYU 89.1 or 89.5 AM.
  • During the emergency dont use the telephone
    except to report other emergencies.

8
During the Emergency
  • Do not jeopardize your life or the lives of
others by attempting to save personal or
    university property.

9
Additional Training Information
  • The amount and type of additional training needed
is dependant upon the hazards present in your
area. For example if you are working in a
laboratory where a life threatening chemical
release may occur then additional emergency
    response training is needed.
  • All individuals must know the escape route for
their area, and where their designated assembly
    area is located.
  • For more information please see your Department
Emergency Plan, or contact Risk Management
    Safety (422-4468).
