3
Introduction
  • America has become dependent on multitasking and
the internet. Online voting has become an
alternative option to voting at the poles. It
could satisfy ones need to vote, while
accommodating ones busy schedule. This has
become a debate amongst many people. While most
people agree that it will save time, and allow an
equal opportunity for everyone to vote, others
fear that our democracy could be up for grabs.

4
The Pros
  • Saves time (avoids traffic, pole lines, after
    work rush to poles)
  • Can vote from any location that provides internet
    access
  • Citizens can vote from abroad
  • Eliminates absentee ballots
  • Equal opportunity for everyone to vote
  • Would not have to count paper ballots

5
The Cons
  • Ensuring online security
  • Fraud
  • Privacy
  • Identification
  • Technical Problems
  • Accuracy

6
Voters computers being attacked by viruses.
  • The result of an election could be easily
manipulated by hackers or people of different
    parties.
  • Infected computers may not give an accurate
    number of recorded votes.

7
Ensuring privacy and confidentiality of voters
  • Confidentiality concerns could arise when online
voters use public computers at work or the
    library.
  • People might feel vulnerable because they do not
have the same privacy of voting at the poles and
hackers may be able to check the computers
history and learn about ones vote.

8
Accuracy of votes recorded
  • It will be difficult to eliminate the voters
constant concern of how accurate votes are being
recorded. This has always been an issue in
regular voting polls. Now, that this system is
moving electronically, the concern is bigger and
    more difficult to address.
  • Citizens voting multiple times
  • Identity Theft

9
Malfunctions
  • Technical problems may happen at any time.
  • If too many people try to access a page at one
time, it may become overloaded. These problems
may make citizens unable to vote.
  • Power outages
  • Weather related incidences
  • Equipment problems

prefer various types of electronic voting
    equipment to paper.

Conclusion
  • Online voting will be a reality of the future
because it will allow every person to vote while
    accommodating their individual schedule. However,
there will always be security problems as long as
humans are making the software and able to
    manipulate the computer systems.
