Title: WARNING POZOR

1
WARNING!POZOR!!!
  • Scabies is Highly Contagious!
  • a.k.a svrab

2
  • Scabbies is a transmissible ectoparasite skin
infection that is caused by a type of mite
  • ( roztoc).
  • It is characterized by superficial burrows,
    intense pruritus (itching) and secondary
    infection.
  • The word 'scabies' in Latin is 'itch'.

3
  • Scabies is frequently misdiagnosed as intense
pruritus (itching of healthy skin) before papular
    eruptions form.
  • Upon initial pruritus the burrows appear as
small, barely noticeable bumps on the hands and
may be slightly shiny and dark in color rather
    than red.
  • The itching may not exactly correlate to the
    location of these bumps.
  • As the infestation progresses, these bumps become
    more red in color.

4
  • Scabbies mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) burrow, or
tunnel, under the outer layer of skin.
  • These mites lay eggs under the skin and feed on
    blood.
  • The mites are about the size of a pinhead, are
nearly transparent, and usually cannot be seen.

5
Scabbies symptoms
  • The most common scabbies symptom is extreme
    itching, particularly at night.
  • The itching is the result of an allergic reaction
to the mites and their waste.
  • The scabbies symptoms usually appear from two to
six weeks after becoming infested. However,
people who have previously had scabbies can show
    symptoms within a few days.

6
The most common areas of skin affected by
scabbies include
  • between the toes and fingers
  • around the wrist
  • folds of the elbow, armpits,
  • beltline
  • abdomen
  • genitalia
  • nipples
  • buttocks
  • the groin.

7
  • Babies and small children may get it on the face,
scalp or soles of the feet.

How do you get scabbies
  • Scabbies is transferred by direct skin-to-skin
    contact.
  • It can also be transferred by contact with
clothes or bedding that has been contaminated by
    an infected person.
  • A very common way to get scabbies is to shake
hands with an infected person. It can also be
transmitted during sexual contact ( pohlavní
    styk).

15
  • You cannot get scabbies from pets. Scabbies mites
only infest humans. The mites can only survive
for three or four days if they are away from the
    human body.
  • You are contagious and can spread scabbies until
all the mites and eggs are killed by a treatment.

16
If You Have Any of These Symptoms...

2) Felt-tip marker test - Take a washable
felt-tip marker across the rash - Wipe

identify a burrow because the ink goes into
a deeper level of the skin.
19
Scabies Treatment
  • - start treatment immediately
  • - treated at the same time to prevent
re-infestation with scabies from other persons
who might be infected but do not have any
    symptoms yet
  • infected persons clothing and bedding needs to
be washed in hot water and ironed so as to kill
the mite and all of its eggs.

20
  • The best treatment for scabies is Dermisil

21
  • treat itching with antihistamine
    medications such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl).

22
Follow Up

    4 weeks
