3Responsibilities of the District Board
- The Zonta International Bylaws specify that the
District Board has general supervision over clubs
and administration of the district. It makes
decisions upon matters requiring action between
meetings of the district conference, but may not
act in conflict with the Zonta International
Bylaws, the District Rules of Procedure, or
actions taken by the conference.
4But just what does the district board do?
- Meets twice yearlyearly summer and before the
Fall Seminar or Conference - Holds a conference call in January
- Proposes goals and long range plans for the
district - Plans the district conference
- Recommends the district budget for the next
biennium
5Who is eligible to be elected Governor,
Lieutenant Governor, or Area Director?
- To be qualified, the candidate must
- be a classified member in good standing of a
Zonta club with experience in a decision-making
capacity and - have served at least two years in an elected club
office and/or have been a district committee
chairman and - have served at least one year as a club president
6What does the Governor do?
- Trains members of the District Board
- Issues a newsletter four times per year
- Appoints the district secretary, parliamentarian,
the committee chairs and coordinators - Authorizes district expenditures
- Oversees the planning of the Fall Seminar and the
District Conference - Prepares and submits the Governors Report to the
International Board of Directors three times per
year
7What does the Lt. Governor do?
- Assists the Governor
- Chairs the District Organization, Membership and
Classification (OMC) Committee - Actively encourages the formation of new clubs
and recruitment and retention of members in
existing clubs - Maintains contact with the International OMC
Committee chairman
8What does an Area Director do?
- Acts as a liaison between the clubs in the area
and the District Board - Visits clubs in the area at least once during the
biennium - Encourages new clubs and assists clubs of concern
- Plans and conducts area meetings
- Is a voting member of the District Board
9Who is qualified to be a candidate for District
Treasurer?
- The District Treasurer candidate must
- Be a classified member in good standing of a
Zonta club with experience in a decision-making
capacity and - Have served at least two years in an elected club
office and/or have been a district committee
chairman
10What does the District Treasurer do?
- Administers district funds in accordance with the
approved district budget - Mails invoices for district dues and processes
dues payments - Prepares a biennial district budget to be
reviewed by the District Board and presented at
the district conference for approval - Chairs the District Finance Committee
11Qualifications and Responsibilities of the
District Secretary
- The district secretary is a classified member in
good standing of a Zonta club who has been
appointed to the position by the Governor. - Maintains records for the districtrecords and
produces minutes for all board meetings and the
District Conference. - Prepares the official list of voting members of
the district conference and alternate delegates.

13Bylaws and Resolutions Committee
- Reviews and suggests revisions to the Rules of
Procedure for the district each biennium to
ensure they do not conflict with the Zonta
International Bylaws. - Assists the district board to study proposals
from the clubs regarding bylaw changes before
these are submitted to the district conference. - The Governor appoints the chairman and committee
members.
14Nominating Committee
- Proposes the slate of candidates for all elected
district positions for the next biennium. - Works with the Zonta International Nominating
Committee to recruit qualified Zontians for Zonta
International officers, directors, and the
nominating committee. - The three members of the nominating committee are
elected by a plurality vote at the district
conference. The candidate who received the
highest number of votes is the chairman.

Committee
- Promotes continuing membership growth
recruitment and retention in existing clubs - Communicates with club OMC Committee chairmen,
acting as a resource on organization,
recruitment, and retention - Communicates with the International OMC Committee
chairman or assigned Committee liaison

- Promotes an awareness of Zonta clubs and their
projects and programs throughout the district - Communicates with Club Public Relations and
Communications Committee chairmen - Promotes the programs and materials developed by
the International Public Relations and
Communications Committee
17District Webmaster
- Maintains the district website
- Establishes links to new information on the Zonta
International website - Advises clubs in developing websites as requested
within the district
18United Nations Committee
- Promotes awareness of the United Nations, its
agencies and programs, and understanding of the
relationship between the United Nations and Zonta
International - Promotes the recognition of United Nations
DayOctober 24 and International Womens
DayMarch 8 - Promotes the implementation of the UN Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
against Women (CEDAW)
