The California Governors Council on
Physical Fitness and Sports is a
non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated
to promoting physical activity for all
Californians, especially children
and youth.

Why We Exist

• Only 40 of Californian's teens meet minimum
  daily targets for physical activity
• Close to 74 of California youth are unfit
• Research has shown that regular physical activity
  during childhood and adolescence helps build
  healthier bones and muscles, increases
  self-esteem and reduces the risk of diseases such
  as type 2 diabetes and obesity

• We encourage all Californians to get more active
  and we shine a light on individuals,
  organizations and events that employ innovation,
  inspiration and initiative to positively impact
  physical activity, fitness levels and the well
  being of California children and youth.

Physical Activity Encouragement

• Governors ChallengeGovernor Schwarzenegger and
  the Council challenge Californians to be active
  30-60 minutes a day at least 3 days a week --
  Californians who complete the Challenge earn
  rewards from the Council
• In The SpotlightShining a light on individuals,
  organizations and events that employ innovation,
  inspiration and initiative to positively impact
  physical activity, fitness levels and the well
  being of California children and youth.
