I think the focus at CSU on practical training
was the thing that made the course stand out to
me. I was ready to walk into a newsroom once I

What made me a rounded graduate was the balance
between theory and practice. I think thats the
difference between CSU and other universities,
such as UTS. A lot of friends who went there say
it was theory based and not so much practical
experience

I'm always surprised by the amount of people in
high places who are CSU graduates. Its a nice
strong network. There's CSU graduates in every
newsroom that Ive worked in.

I look around the newsroom and I see that a
majority of my colleagues originally came from
CSU. It has strong ties to the industry
especially with WIN and Prime who are in the
region

I heard a lot about it when I was at uni and
didnt know how true it was, but it definitely is
once you get out there

I think where CSU has always had the edge is
that they have concentrated on providing really
good practical knowledge, so they can come out of
a CSU course knowing what's expected of them

We've always found that CSU students have a
really good grasp of what's required, they have a
really good knowledge of current tools and they
adapt very readily to the challenges of a

AAP is pretty much crammed with former CSU
students, and out on the road I run into former
graduates working for Channel 9, ABC, Rural Press
and Prime- they're just kind of everywhere. There
is definitely a lot of CSU graduates out there

Personally I found the experience at the radio
station with 2MCE and National Radio News
invaluable. Just to be able to say that you have
worked in a functioning news room gave me an
advantage over other people.
