Statistics on Drug Abuse
  • 73.5 of those in addiction treatment located in
    Wisconsin were male.
  • 26.5 of the individuals in drug addiction
    treatment residing in Wisconsin during 2001 were
    female.
  • The largest age groups admitted into to a drug
    rehab during 2001 in Wisconsin were between the
    ages of 36-40 (16.9).
  • The second largest age groups attending drug
    rehabilitation in Wisconsin during 2001 were
    between the ages of 21-25 and 41-45 (13.9).
  • 85.7 of the individuals in drug treatment
    located in Wisconsin during 2001 were Caucasian.

Psychiatric Illness
  • An estimated 22.1 percent of Americans ages 18
    and older - about one in five (or over 44
    million) adults - suffer from a diagnosable
    mental disorder in a given year.
  • Many people suffer from more than one mental
    disorder at a given time. In particular,
    depressive illnesses tend to co-occur with
    substance abuse and anxiety disorders.
  • Approximately 18.8 million American adults - or
    9.5 percent - ages 18 and over, will suffer from
    a depressive illness (major depression) each

    have a diagnosable mental disorder - most
    commonly a depressive disorder or a substance
    abuse disorder.

    However, women attempt suicide two to three times
    more often than men.

    Caucasian men over age 85. However, suicide is
    also one of the leading causes of death in
    adolescents and adults ages 15 to 24.
