Executive Order 13101
  • Greening the government through waste
    prevention, recycling, and federal acquisition.
  • Expands the federal governments commitment to
    recycling, waste prevention and to buying
    recycled content and environmentally preferable
    products and services.

Hawaii Procurement Code
  • The procurement program requires State and County
    purchasing agencies to
  • - Purchase products with recycled content
  • - Be consistent with Federal specifications
  • - Purchase materials that can be
    recycled/reused
  • - Purchase office paper and printed material
    with recycled content, except when statutory,
    regulatory or contractual requirements preclude
    it

    Moanalua Terrace
  • -In a two year period, 100,000 tons of waste
    material was collected and 80 was processed
    recycled back
  • into new projects

  • -675 tons was used for walls
  • and foundations on their Sand Island
    Wastewater Treatment Facility project

  • -Keeps 50 million pounds of waste out of the
    landfill

  • -Customers like the workability

  • 100,000 tons of road building waste projected to
    be recycled at the facility
