Title: The Education of Ryan Wilson

1
The Education of Ryan Wilson
  • 1990-Present Day

2
Pre School Malberg School (1990-1991)
  • Afternoon schooling (starting at noon)
  • I remember a activity where each student took the
classroom bear home and was in charge of taking
care of it and doing such things as brushing its
teeth, changing its cloths, and other daily
    routine necessities.

3
Elementary School Kingston Elementary School
(1991-1997)
  • TAG program The Talented and Gifted. I recall
that only the smart kids were leaving normal
daily classes to attend TAG classes. I wasnt
apart of this group of students.

4
Movie Day
  • Every Wednesday, our class got together with
three other classes in one room to view a movie.
Most of the time the movies were blockbusters and
the time spent in the classroom watching the
movie was strictly for social purposes. If a
class was being bad, the movie day could have
    been canceled.

5
Kingston School Sex Education
  • 5th grade During a normal health class, all the
males and females were separated into different
classrooms with a teacher of the same sex. I
remember most of the students laughed and thought
    the lesson was rather humorous.

6
Unique Story 3rd Grade Teacher Wedding
  • In 3rd grade, my teacher was getting married and
had the certain students from the class in her
wedding. A few boys and I were ushers during the
    wedding.

7
4th Grade Miss Miginly
  • My 4th grade teacher enjoyed our class so much
that she attempted to teach our exact same class
in the upcoming 5th grade. Many parents thought
this was unhealthy and unusual. Later Miss
Miginly and three other of her family members
    committed suicide.

8
Kingston School Mt. Misery
  • During 6th grade, all students attended six days
jointly at a recreation camp called Mt. Misery.
During the six days, many activities like nature
hikes and arts and crafts were apart of our daily
    routines.

9
Mt. Misery Alligator Alley
  • I recall the camp directors taking all the
students to a local swamp called Alligator Alley,
where each student tried to cross the swamp
trying not to fall in. All of the students fell
in the swamp and the walk back to the camp was
    quite dreadful.

10
O.J. Simpson Verdict
  • In 6th grade we were taken, as a class, to the
library to view the verdict of the O.J. Simpson
court case. The moments leading up to the
verdict caused great excitement and anticipation
from many people. I did not know the specifics
of the case at that time which caused a lack of
    interest in the case.

11
Clinton
  • I remember a big commotion about how the
president was being impeached. Then, I dont
recall knowing what exactly Clinton did to get
impeached but late I found out the details. At
the time, I wasnt too involved with the issue
because it appeared too complicated and I was to
to young and lazy to take interest in politic
    affairs.

12
Carusi Middle School (1998-2000)
  • 7th grade - 8th grade
  • An immense sense of anticipation and nervousness
arose coming to this school because it is the
joining of all the various elementary schools on
the west side of Cherry Hill. And most kids did
not know each other at all.

13
Carusi Spirit Week
  • One week of the school year was dedicated to
Spirit Week which was a week long festival
celebrating school spirit and a selected theme.
This greatly brought together a school as whole
    in selected competitions and games.

14
Carusi Violence
  • With the coming together of the many different
elementary schools, more students were in school
and more conflicts and problems started to grow.
On one occasion our wrestling team came in
conflict with an opposing team from a lower
social class. Later our coach explained why our
    teams actions were unacceptable.

15
Columbine 1999
  • The school shooting at Columbine struck fear into
the school district. Many new rules and old
rules were now enforced with a great extent of
seriousness. Dress codes and locker searches
were more evident, while a No Tolerance policy
was made regarding any type of violent behavior
    in the school district.

16
September 11th, 2001 and War
  • 10th grade Second period, history class my
teacher informed the class that the United States
was under attack. Later the principle made an
announcement about the tragic events. Many
parents came to the school to pick up their kids.
I remember going home and watching the news for
hours on every station. The belief of a possible
world war was evident in my mind and many others.

17
Work Study?
  • This CO-OP program offered at West, gave the
student the choice whether to go to a full day of
school, or students could qualify to go to school
for half of the day and go to work of the other
    half.

18
High school Violence and Fear
  • Many reports of fights and gang violence erupted
in this school. Fights, bomb treats, many
suicides, hit lists, grand theft auto, loaded
weapons, and students being jumped were very
common in high school. With an attempt for
safety, the principle was forced to make a
mandatory ten day suspension of anyone
participating in any kind of fight and other
serious penalties for other school violence.
Fear was present in many students daily.

19
Mr. West
  • The schools male homecoming competition which
required the following categories formal wear,
casual wear, swimsuit, talent, and questioning.
Under the name Mr. Wiggles and the talent of
break dancing I took home the 2004 Mr. West
    crown.

20
Graduation
  • My class was the first class to graduate outside
the school grounds. We had our ceremony on the
stage of the Tweeter Center. We shared the stage
that many other past musicians played live.

21
College Search
  • During the last two years of high school, many
guidance counselors visits took place and dealt
with college searching. All the counselors urged
the all students to proceed to college to succeed
since 151 students out of 381 were put on no
credit status for having too many absents and
were in danger of not graduating.
