Amazon.com Overview
  • Amazon.com is an American e-commerce company
    based in Seattle, Washington. It was one of the
    first major companies to sell goods over the
    Internet.
  • It was one of the iconic stocks of the late 1990s
    dot-com bubble (a speculative bubble covering
    roughly 19952001 during which stock markets in
    Western nations saw their value increase rapidly
    from growth in the new Internet sector).
  • The company was launched in 1995 and began as an
    online bookstore under the name of Cadabra.com,
    the name was soon changed.
  • The company turned its first profit in the 4th
    quarter 2001.
  • Amazon sells over 20 different product lines,
    including books, DVDs, lawn garden, apparel,
    toys, electronics, jewelry, automotive products,
    and many others.
  • Estimated 15 billion in sales in 2007.
  • Now the worlds largest online retailer.

  • Amazon.com uses many commerce innovations such as
    electronic funds transfer, internet marketing,
    online transaction processing, electronic data
    interchange, inventory management systems.
  • Amazon.com has many partnerships and also powers
    and hosts the websites of many companies such as
    Walden Books, Borders, Virgin Megastores, CDNOW,
    Target, Bebe Stores, Sears Canada, NBA, Lacoste,
    and many others.
  • You can purchase new products, or buy and sell
    used items via auctions style on Amazon.com, a
    fee is charged only if you sell the item.
  • Amazon.com is a Business-to-Consumer and a
    Business-to-Business company.
  • As of September 2007, Amazon.com added a
    new MP3 store which allows the purchase of
    MP3 formatted songs
    as downloadable files.

    faculties in Asia.
  • Most facilities are near major airports.
