Title: Rainforest Unit Plan

1
Rainforest Unit Plan
  • By Taylor Shockley

2
Analyze Learners
  • Third Grade
  • Should have knowledge of habitats and creatures
    that live in these habitats.
  • Depth of that information is not necessary

3
State ObjectivesWV CSOs
  • SC.3.3.1 identify that systems are made of parts
    that interact with one another
  • SC.3.3.2 use models as representations of real
    things
  • SC.3.3.3 observes that changes occur gradually,
repetitively, or randomly within the environment
    and question causes of changes.

4
CSOs Continued
  • SC.3.4.3 compares physical characteristics and
behaviors of living organisms and explains how
they are adapted to a specific environment (e.g.,
beaks and feet in birds, seed dispersal,
    camouflage, different types of flowers).
  • SC.3.4.4 observes and describes relationships
among organisms in an ecosystem (e.g., sequencing
food chains, behavior, adaptations, factors that
    effect populations, predator-prey relationships

5
More CSOs
  • RLA.3.2.4 use a variety of strategies to plan
simple research (e.g., identify possible topic by
brainstorming list questions use idea webs
organize prior knowledge about a topic develop a
course of action for writing determine how to
    locate necessary information).
  • RLA.3.2.5 uses a variety of sources to gather
    information (e.g., use dictionaries
    encyclopedias newspapers).

    rainforest
  • At the end of this lesson, the students will be
assigned an animal to research in depth

11
Day 4
  • The fourth day will mainly be research day. They
    will use different medias Dictionary,
    Encyclopedia, and the Internet

pass out called If I were which they will
discuss the animal that they are researching.

12
Day 5
  • The fifth day we will make masks of our animals
    faces.
  • Each student will need the following
    Construction paper, scissors, glue,
crayons/markers and anything else they might need
    for their specific animal.

Day 6
  • This is the day where they will prepare their
    presentations.
  • They will write them down and bring them to me to
check. I will correct spelling and grammar.
  • They will write a final copy

14
Days 7-10
  • Presentation Days!!!
  • These days the students will take turns doing
their presentations in front of the class.
  • Parents will be welcome to come and watch!

15
Require Learner Participation
  • I think that this unit plan in particular is
something that the students will enjoy. There is
a mixture of things to do including research,
arts and crafts, and acting like and animal. I
think that most of the activities are hands on
which is much more entertaining than a lecture. I
would like to think that they will already be
informative about some animals and etc. so I will
encourage them to participate in the lectures.
With all the hands on activities, the class may
get a little loud. However, this will not be an
issue as long as they are staying on task. This
unit plan has such a wide variety of activities
and it is very open ended to let the children be
as creative as they can possibly be. I think the
students will learn without even realizing they
    are doing it.

16
Evaluate and Revise
  • Class Participation
  • -Research Animals
  • -Participate in Discussion
  • Finish all handouts
  • The Presentation should be well rehearsed and
they should show knowledge in their subject.
