The Spate Irrigation Network

• The Spate Irrigation Network would exchange
  experiences and good practices, help upgrade
  training, identify priority fields for
  improvement and research and development.

Objectives of SIN

• Familiarize policy makers, implementing agencies
  (NGOs/ government departments), research
  agencies and funding agencies with development
  scope, experiences and practical approaches to
  spate irrigation development and support
• Document good practices and initiate practical
  research in spate irrigation
• Disseminate experiences between countries

Activities of SIN

• Preparation and dissemination of guidelines
• Preparation of training material for use in
  professional curricula including training of
  trainers
• Advocacy visits
• Liaison with research organization and land/water
  networks
• Organize seminar sessions
• Participate in preparation and reviews of spate
  irrigation programs
• Maintain website

Structure of SIN

• Nodal network in countries to start with Yemen ,
  Pakistan and Eritrea
• Small part-time secretariat to steer (prepare
  annual workplan) and maintain website and support
  knowledge exchange and liaise with other
  organizations
• Two-yearly side-meeting to discuss themes (in
  particular spate irrigation in context of water
  resource management/ food security/ poverty
  alleviation) and activities/ governance of
  network
• Members and organization subscribe
