all .doc files, as well as save to .doc - Native format extension is a .odt

in .pdf format

- Looks a lot like Excel, and can decode .xls
files, as well as save to .xls - Native format extension is a .ods
- Also has the ability to export your spreadsheets
and tables to a .pdf file

- Similar to Powerpoint, and can decode .ppt, as
well as save to .ppt - Native format extension is a .odp
- Good for basic presentations, but Powerpoint
still has more power for the more advanced
presentations - Has the built-in ability to export as a .swf
file, so you can show it using a Flash player.

- Similar to Visio, however, can not read .vsd
files - Again, has the ability to export as a .swf file
- Have to create your own shapes

- A database program, which uses HSQL to store its
data in XML files - Hypersonic SQL is a open-source DB written in
Java - Can access most industry standard databases, like
Access and MySQL
