Co-Chair Recommendations

• During a conference call on March 29, 2006 the
  FoN WG proposed the names of the following
  individuals be placed before NANC for approval as
  FoN WG Co-Chairs.
• Karen Mulberry, Neustar Jim Castagna, Verizon
• John Cummings, Vonage Don Gray, Nebraska PUC
• The group felt that the nature and scope of the
  work to be undertaken by the FoN WG in developing
  a report to NANC on the Future of Numbering would
  benefit from using four Co-Chairs from diverse
  backgrounds.

FoN Mission and Scope

• Mission
• To explore changes to the environment, including
  new and future technologies, the impact of market
  place and/or regulatory changes and innovations
  on telephone numbering.
• Scope
• The Working Group will investigate new telephone
  (North American Numbering Plan - NANP) numbering
  assignment approaches and future telephone number
  assignment requirements. The Working Group will
  identify trends and assess their impact upon
  numbering resources. The Working Group, if
  necessary, will analyze potential changes to
  numbering administration and use common criteria
  to determine the feasibility and benefit of each
  and report its findings to the NANC. The Working
  Group will also analyze various topics that may
  be given to it from time to time by the NANC
  and/or FCC.

• Why do numbers need to be geographic is there a
  number boundary?
• Impact of nomadic and/or mobile numbers vis-a-vis
  VoIP and/or cellular when area codes cease to
  be meaningful.

• Do rate centers continue to exist?
• Marketplace allocation/solutions of numbering
  resources buying/selling using a marketplace
  allocation approach as opposed to regulatory
  allocation system.

  Miller?
• Are there international roaming issues?
• 10 Digit Dialing?
