• Born Marguerite Annie Johnson
• Born in St. Louis, Missouri, April 4,1928
• Parents divorced when she was 3
• Moved to Stamps, Arkansas, with her Grandma
• At age 7, she was molested by her mothers
  boyfriend
• After her uncle killed her attacker, she felt as
  if her words killed him, and did not speak until
  she was 13.
