1
The Gluten Database
  • www.glutendb.webs.com
  • Pawel Cieslewski

2
Criterion G
  • 1 out of every 130 people have an allergy to
    gluten.
  • Gluten Protein in wheat,
    rye, and barley.

3
Identifying Gluten
  • Identifying gluten requires knowledge of what it
    is, and what contains it.
  • Nutrition facts are confusing.

4
This is tedious.
  • It is a extremely tedious process to constantly
    check these labels.
  • Tedious is a waste of time.

5
Tedious Dangerous
  • Tedious also means that a allergenic person may
get lazy and not be as careful as they once were.
    That is dangerous.

6
FRUSTRATION
  • The FDA says caramel coloring might contain
    gluten.
  • How can you tell?
  • You can't.
  • There has to be
  • another way.

7
Criterion H
  • So... A database of foods containing / not
    containing gluten could be useful.
  • At least this way we wouldn't have to deal with
    the FDA's stupidity difficult language.

8
Criterion I
  • So I decided to make the database.
  • Me and my end-user (Debra Mirek RN) took up this
    adventure.

10
Gantt Chart
  • The previous image was my gantt chart.
  • Everything went according to schedule.

11
Delay
  • The big delay was the fact that I found out that
my project needed to be online, to reach a wide
    audience.

12
Criterion I Continued
  • So the final product was an online database
    hosted at
  • www.glutendb.webs.com

13
Criterion J Testing
  • There were a total of 3 tests done with my
end-user and testers. There was also a final
    evaluation by my end user.

14
Test 1
  • The products needed to be alphabetized. Also the
search needed to be polished, but that was never
    achieved.

15
Test 2
  • My product needed images for confirmation of the
    foods.

16
Test 3
  • I had to state my sources on the website to make
    it trust-worthy.

17
Criterion K
  • So this projects main goal was to impact the
health of people with a gluten allergy.

18
Success and Failure
  • It was somewhat successful according to my
    end-user. Except...
  • Search function is exceptionally bad.
  • Very small scale.
  • Formatting is par.

19
Conclusion
  • If my project had grown to a large scale and done
with a little more expertise it could have become
a useful tool in the gluten allergenic community.

20
Random Tip of the Day

food, and so does the gluten intolerant community
    so lets show some love.
