Basic Information

• Treblinka was housed in Poland near the village
  of Wolka Okraglik
• Opened July 1942
• Kurt Kranz was the founder

Arrival

• Trains brought in the prisoners
• Shorn of hair
• Undressed
• Sick were to be sent to the hospital and the
  healthy to work
• The road led to the gas chambers

Treblinka I

• Forced labor camp
• Lived in small bunks
• Were given coffee and bread for breakfast and
  dinner and cabbage soup for lunch
• Worked in a gravel pit or irrigation area
• 2000 died of exhaustion, execution or
  mistreatment
• Pit of continuous burning

Treblinka II

• Extermination camp
• Gas chambers
• Up to 3000 people could be killed in two hours
• Portholes were created so Germans could view the
  deaths
• 850,000 died Jews, Gypsies, Romani
• The only camp to kill more than Treblinka was
  Auschwitz-Birkenau

Rebellion

• August 2, 1943 rebellion occurred
• Prisoners broke out setting bunks on fire
• Killed a number of German soldiers
• 1500 prisoners died, 600 escaped, and 40 survived
• Closed October 1943 after the revolt

Never To Be Forgotten

• Treblinka will live on in the minds of the
  survivors. Let us hope history will not repeat
  itself.
