38How to have effective meetings
- Don't meet unless you have a purpose. Avoid a
meeting if your purpose is unclear or if theres
a better way to accomplish your purpose. - Set clear objectives for the meeting. Before
planning the meeting agenda, determine the
objectives of the meeting. The more concrete your
objectives, the more focused your agenda will be.
Example, complete this sentence By the end of
the meeting
39How to have effective meetings
- Provide members an agenda beforehand. Your agenda
needs to include a one-sentence description of
the objectives and a listing of what will be
discussed. - Follow the agenda closely during the meeting.
Dont deviate or discuss anything that is not
included unless led by the Spirit. - Help members to prepare ahead. Give members
something to prepare for before the meeting. If
you do that the meeting will take on a new
significance for each group member.
40How to have effective meetings
- Assign action items if applicable. Don't finish
any meeting without an action point, i.e.
something that the members will do after the
meeting. - Examine what happened during the meeting. Don't
leave the meeting without assessing what took
place and making a plan to improve the next time.
Be open to improvements or corrections. - Inform the group of your next meeting if
applicable. Be sure that your members know when
and where will be the next meeting.
