Title: Dermal Fillers (Juvederm, Radiesse, & Restylane)
1WHAT ARE HYALURONIC ACIDS?
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS, Board Certified Plastic
Surgeon and West Palm DERMAL Fillers expert,
advises the proper selection and use of dermal
fillers. Dermal fillers are used to restore
volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial
wrinkles and folds. The most commonly used dermal
fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers
such as juvederm, restylane, and perlane.
2Made of a substance called hyaluronic acid ( a
natural and very important part of skin
structure), these dermal fillers primarily aim to
replace natural hyaluronic acid that diminishes
with age - or was insufficient to begin with, as
is the case with thin lips. Recent advances in
technology have made it possible to recreate
hyaluronic acid in a lab and stabilize it to make
it more long lasting.
3HYALURONIC ACIDS HOW DO THEY WORK
Hyaluronic acid is an integral support molecule
for proteins such as collagen and elastin to help
keep our skin looking young. As we age and
decreased hydration occurs, we lose vital
hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin.
Environmental exposures also contribute to the
loss of these important skin structures, such as
sun, smoking and pollution. As a result of this
process, we develop wrinkles, lines, and skin
which has lost much of its bounce-back and
firmness.
4Replacing hyaluronic acid creates volume in your
face, giving it a healthy, youthful appearance.
HAs are injected directly into areas where the
bodys support structures have been weakened,
depressions can be raised to the level of
surrounding skin. This smoothes and minimizes
facial lines and skin folds. In addition, skin
texture is improved and has a softer and more
even tone. For thin lips or lip augmentation,
hyaluronic acids are the filler of choice.
5Radiesse
By recognizing volume loss as the hallmark of the
aging face, newer stimulatory fillers such as
Radiesse is enabling practitioners to do more
than just fill discrete wrinkles or plump up
lips. Radiesse is a rather unique product used to
fill deeper folds in your skin. Because of it's
components and duration, Radiesse ( previously
known as Radiance ) is technically an implant as
opposed to a "wrinkle filler".
6The tiny microspheres, made of calcium
hydroxylapatite, provide a scaffolding into which
your body's own collagen can grow and maintain
the material in place. Calcium hydroxylapatite is
a natural constituent of bone so you will not
need allergy testing. Radiesse is a safe,
effective and filler of choice where larger
volume is required. It is extremely popular both
for its immediate effectiveness and long duration.
