David Silipigno Challenged The City's Assessment

David Silipigno, a successful businessman from
Saratoga Springs was in news for taking legal
action against the city on his Saratoga
residence. He recently challenged the city for
charging him double the actual assessment for his
20,800-square-foot home at 36 Stony Brook Drive.
He had to face a lot of criticism and humiliation
for doing so because the city did not want him to
bring this in front of the judge as it was very
well aware of its consequences.

In 2008, David Silipigno challenged the city's
assessment claiming that he was charged double
the amount of what the actual assessment was.
With the aim of settling this property tax case,
the City Council voted in executive session on
July 20 for authorizing Mayor Scott Johnson who
assessed his home at a total value of 4.4
million, of which 3.6 million is taxable.

The city later on settled for less than half the
original assessment. According to a report, the
city will be paying David Silipigno 23,149.64
for overpayments in 2009 and 2010. Apart from
this, David will not be required to make payments
for the last two quarters of this year.

In an interview about this property tax case,
David Silipigno was quoted saying that the
commissioner had no intentions of settling this
case until he was backed into a corner where he
did not have any other choice but to settle for
less than half the original assessment. He said
that the commissioner was waiting for paper work,
which according to Silipigno was just a poor face
saving attempt.
