Title: Massage Post Breast Augmentation - Dr. Kris Reddy
1Purposes for Breast Massage
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS, Board Certified Plastic
Surgeon and West Palm Beach Breast augmentation
expert, advises breast massage Following breast
augmentation to maintain the soft feeling of your
breasts (help prevent capsular contracture).
Capsular contracture is when normal scar tissue
surrounding the breast capsule grows tighter
(contracts) around the breast implant. It can
make the implant feel hard and hereby distort the
appearance of the breasts. Capsular Contracture
is very uncomfortable, and the most probable
negative outcome after breast augmentation.
2Moreover, breast massage can also help retain the
contour and symmetry of your breasts. It can
also help symmetry if one breast implant is
slightly higher than another.
3Breast Massage Beginning
Each board certified plastic surgeon has slightly
different preferences on when and how to perform
the breast massage. However, the general
consensus is to start massaging the day after
surgery by placing gentle but steady pressure
with both hands for two minutes. You will then
repeat the process on the other breast . As a
result, you will pull the breast tissue upward
while pulling the breast implant downwards.
4As the breast pockets become less tense, you will
expand the exercises per the direction of your
board certified plastic surgeon. While the
board certified plastic surgeon will advise you
appropriately, breast massage exercises will
continue most commonly for three months after
breast augmentation surgery.
5Breast Massage Continuing
It is important to begin these massage exercises
soon after breast augmentation surgery even
though it may be uncomfortable initally. After
the first couple of times, the breast massage
process becomes more comfortable. It is key to do
these breast massage exercises during the first
few days to ensure most natural looking breast
augmentation surgery in terms of shape and
contour.
6After three months, the board certified plastic
surgeon may taper off the breast massage
exercises. However, the surgeon may request that
you continue to perform the exercises 2 times per
day even after your breasts feel soft and the
implants are moving freely. Some board
certified plastic surgeons may want you to
continue doing these breast massage exercises for
up to 1 year for optimal benefit.
7Breast Massage Warning Signs
You should immediately consult the office of your
board certified plastic surgeon if you experience
any sharp pain, flushed, burning, or hot breast
skin, or hardness or severe tightening at any
time with your breast implants.
