What is a SMART Board?
A SMART board (commonly known as an Interactive
Whiteboard) is a large interactive display that
connects to a computer projector.
The projector projects the computers desktop
onto the boards surface where users control the
computer using a pen, finger, or other device.
The board is typically mounted to a wall or a
floor stand.

BEGINNING USER
A beginning user uses the SMART Board in a very
basic way Displays overhead projector on SMART
Board
  • Uses dry-erase markers for annotations
  • Teacher is primary user of the SMART board
  • Struggles with features, unsure of basic tools in
    Notebook
  • Displays seatwork/bellwork directions then turns
    off for rest of morning/period
  • Projector primarily used for showing videos,
    United Streaming.

FACTS ABOUT SMART TECHNOLOGY
  • SMART Technologies was founded in 1987 by David
    Martin and Nancy Knowlton who currently hold the
    roles of Executive Chairman and CEO, respectively
  • In 1991, the company introduced the SMART Board
    interactive whiteboard. Today, more than 1.7
    million SMART Board interactive whiteboards are
    installed worldwide in education, business,
    government and military settings. 
  • SMART's world headquarters is located in Calgary,
    Canada, with international offices in Germany,
    France, China, Japan and Singapore, and U.S.
    offices in Washington, DC, New York, NY, and
    Chicago, IL. SMART has more than 1,700 staff
    around the world.
  • In 2009, SMART Board interactive whiteboards led
    the interactive whiteboard category with a 61
    annual share in the United States and 48
    globally
  • Several military organizations around the world
    list SMART products on their General Services
    Administration registry and use them for
    training, briefing, debriefing and enhanced
    collaboration
