Why Sports Are Important

• Sports began because people needed competition.
• Different towns also competed often for land or
  food.

Track and Field

• Running is considered the oldest sport.
• This came from the concept Fight or Flight

More Track and Field

• Races sometimes were from one town to another, so
  distances were undetermined.
• Many events were created from strategies that
  helped in war, such as throwing things or jumping
  distance.

Wrestling

• Fight or Flight also created wrestling
• If you didnt want to run, you needed to know how
  to fight
• Wrestling is known as one of the oldest sports as
  well

More Wrestling

• The winner was the first person to three pins, or
  until one of the wrestlers gave up.
• Matches would sometimes last hours long until
  only one man was standing.

Baseball

• Baseball is considered one of Americas past
  times
• Baseball is a sport that many kids grow up
  knowing how to play.
• In the past, many of our American heroes were
  baseball players

• Baseball is becoming more popular again in the
  last few years.
• Records that lasted for a long time are being
  broken, and people want to be a part of the
  history.

Basketball

• Basketball was a game that was created in the
  YMCA for boys to do in the winter time indoors
• It was first played with the rim being a peach
  basket

• The game was basically a passing game, no
  dribbling occurred.
• The game spread fast across america and a new
  game was born.

• Sports give us a reason to strive to be better.
• Someone always wants to be the best, and building
  on sports and athletic talent helps sports
  survive.
